Human beings too are prey to mental conditioning. Such mental programming comes from those around us, our experiences, and our general environment. It can lead us to believing all sorts of things about ourselves that simply are not true. If we are criticized, ridiculed, or told negative things about ourselves often enough, we can end up believing them and performing accordingly. In other words, we can believe things that stop us jumping as high as we are able. Of course, the opposite is also true, but it is unfortunately the exception rather than the rule. Some research even suggests that by the age of eleven years old, 95% of adolescents have a well defined sense of inferiority. This can result in their thinking leaning towards the negative rather than the positive.
Perhaps the most important question that we
should ask ourselves the most frequently is,
how high do I really want to jump?
or
Never confuse your nature with what you
have been nurtured to become.
